Broic McStoic is usually a young man in his 20's or early 30s (often in Tech). He reads a lot of Ryan Holiday. He's a fan of Taleb, but doesn't understand the math at all. ## Stoics Feel, Broics Respond Broics deny emotion and seek to prevent the negative sorts through individual force. They find the way forward already in themselves. Stoics accept feeling as human nature and recognize that it is our actions that define us. They find the way forward through reasoned consideration of the best action. ## Stoics Seek Virtue, Broics Seek Wealth Stoics seek virtue and tranquility in their life and work, as a result they sometimes gain wealth and respect Broics live to gain abundance from their individual pursuits. They do not understand that as a human we only exist in respect to others. ## Stoics Live For Others, Broics Live For Themselves Stoicism is an urban philosophy for living within a modern society, it was founded and taught in the city of ancient Athens. Broic-ism came from a desire to remove oneself from the social status hierarchies of American individualism. It's about living apart from, not within, the community. A Stoic will call you out for ignorance, a Broic will ignore you. ## Stoics are Philosophers, Broics are "Stoics" Broics ask "how can I live better"? Stoics don't fall into the self-help trap. They understand that living well requires virtuous action and thought. Broics believe that their own success and happiness is virtuous. Stoicism is a wonderful philosophy for living a good life in any era, but it is not a recipe for personal success.
