Audio first content marketing has been the redheaded stepchild of a concept kicking around in the back of my head for the past fIve, or some odd years as I've held on to Call for Content.
It boils down to a few factors.
First is the production workflow itself. Which is research. Outline. Record audio, when bandwidth permits video, transcribe to text. Then repurpose to audio, text and video. And when you focus that workflow around a combination of interview podcasts, roundup articles, and live webinars -- you end up with a real advantage when it comes to content repurposing. And cost efficiency across a multi-channel multi-format content marketing plan.
In the process, you're able to build a deeper network of authority figures, more quickly establish thought leadership, and all buzzwords aside the multichannel format and speed of production that comes with an audio first approach allows you to significantly increase your SEO content.
The types of shows that really channel into I fall into a few buckets that we'll tackle later. But for now, we'll call them daily SEO shows, guest interview shows aKA Authority builder shows. and then we'll talk about top of the market shows as well.
When we plan out the editorial calendar for a given property. First, we want to look at the SEO. And we want to look at a combination of the questions people are asking online and the topics that they are searching around.
Those are going to inform the specific piece of content that we create an outline. When we go to record the initial drafts of the content. We want to be looking out for two things. One witch. Pieces of content can be handled by internal subject matter experts who can do it as a solo show. In two. Which pieces of content require us to invite on an external subject matter expert as a guest.
In either case we want to plan the outline and plan the questions to be asked and answered.
In close ties with our SEO.
Ideally, we record everything, single track, making it easy to transcribe and then repurpose to audio, text and video for a combination of social. And. On page onsite content.
When we look at repurposing. The first thing you do with a podcast is you put up the show notes. After that you can repurpose to a more clean and well formatted blog or download. You can bundle up groups of episodes into eBooks or even full length books. Once you hit 10 or 20 episodes.
And you can chop it up into a million. Little sound bites and quotes.
So. When you run an audio audio, first content marketing strategy. You can produce a lot of content. More content than you can probably repurpose. At a very low cost. And that gives you a lot of advantages when it comes to planning out the rest of your strategy.
#### Community Engagement Loop
The community engagement content loop is pretty darn simple. You've probably seen it before. You've certainly seen it before. If you're reading this actually or listening to it. And. You probably know it intuitively, but you haven't quite solidified it into a process. It goes a little, something like this.
As part of the content that you publish regularly. You have an audience feedback, call to action. That leads into highlighting or spotlighting as we call it different members of your audience or in the cases where that audience leads into a paid community of some sort. A paid community member. On a regular basis.
In time you have either a monthly or a weekly live event. And that then with the member spotlights gets repurposed to the content channel. The very same content channel. Their features and audience feedback. Call to action.
And that is the core of the community engagement content loop.
Now, when it comes to podcasting, it's way easy to do this. And if you're running a podcast and maybe a newsletter and maybe a blog. Then you've got kind of the perfect combo to go at this. And if you want to add on video on top, even better.
But. When we talk about it. In regards to this it's Hey, let us know what you want to, what you want us to ask this next guest. It's Hey, how can we make the show better? What can we do for you?
At the end of the day. It's. A pretty simple loop and you should try to embed it into all the content you create.
Audio content just makes it a little bit easier to put it out everywhere and it makes live content and interviews with members. Much easier. To go about.
#### Single Funnel Marketing
Now the final piece of why I really love audio first content marketing is that it lends itself to a single funnel setup. And when I say single funnel, what I mean is you go to a single front page of a website. And on that front page, there's an email sign up. Or in some cases, a text signup.
That sign up then replies with all of the other sign up options (Podcast apps, Spotify, YouTube, etc). So you want to sign up for our podcast? Sign up via email. We'll let you know when a new episode drops.
And that allows us to bring everyone into a single newsletter funnel and ideally into the podcast funnel. And from there. We have our subscriber base. And so I like to keep it super simple on that front end so we can focus on creating awesome content.
